father’s day antique trip

growing up i have fond memories of trailing behind my parents at antique stores and thrift shops… they taught us young about the thrill of the hunt… and this weekend i decided to take my dad on a trip of antiquing and exploring.

if you read my post about last father’s day you know that my dad isn’t all about gifts… it’s the time spent and the sentimental value of the day.  so an antiquing trip was a great way to celebrate the best dad in the world!

our first stop was at this shop called ‘oddities & such’ in carrboro… my first thought was that this shop would be like the oddities shop on tv, ‘obscura,’ with crazy things on the shelves… but it ended up just being another antique shop. the owner was real nice though, and he went by the nickname of ‘big red.’  he just wanted to talk…and talk…and talk!  he practically gave us the items we bought, but i don’t think he’s in it for the money. he just enjoys talking to his customers.  and we enjoyed talking to him as well.

i got two wooden shoe forms and a small clear glass insulator… for $1 {cha-ching!} we will definitely return to that shop… dad even said that he left some things unturned so he could discover them later.  he got some little trinkets for target practice. (he asked for a pellet/bb gun for father’s day so he could practice his shooting in the backyard…so his goal today was finding things to shoot)

but we realized that we weren’t too far from chapel hill when we saw a food truck selling crepes! LOL!

so we hit the road and our next stop was pittsboro.  we walked around downtown and checked out a couple more antique shops.  one of the shops had three floors. {wa-hooo!} and the guys had a little fun with some hats…

and then onto sandford… where we stopped for lunch at ‘bubba’s subs and pizza.’  Y-U-M-M-Y!! best subs in town… only subs we’ve actually had in town, but they were the best subs in town! by far!

and the antique mall that just kept going.  there were different floors and annexes and bridges into other rooms… it just kept going and going and going!

and we found some “oddities” at one of the shops

we got another printer/type tray at the antique mall… our wonderful friends, allie and mike, gave us an awesome type tray and we had one already… we have not decided to make our stair wall a type tray collage.  so i let nick get the tray today.

then we headed to greensboro at the end of the day… and we saw an old car on the way!

it was a real great day… and spending time with carsyn made it even better!

{i have no clue what nick was saying to her, but from her facial expressions she didn’t find it funny! LOL!}

{i’m so lucky to have such a wonderful dad… happy father’s day to the best dad in the world!}
